THE WHY

Fremont Brewing was born of our love for our home and history as well as the desire to prove that beer made with the finest local ingredients – organic when possible – is not the wave of the future but the doorway to beer's history. Starting a brewery in the midst of the Great Recession is clearly an act of passion. We invite you to come along with us and enjoy that passion … Because Beer Matters.

THE WHERE

Fremont is industrial and sleekly postmodern – home to artists, fisher people, tradespeople, technology geeks, and lots of beer lovers. And, for those who don't know, Washington state is home to the second largest hop growing region in the world. Visit our Fremont Urban Beer Garden.

Columbia City is a historic southeast Seattle gem where diverse cultures collide. Colorful murals, global cuisines, and century-old charm create a vibrant urban village. Discover eclectic shops, cozy pubs, and a welcoming community spirit – the perfect backdrop for savoring Fremont's craft brews. Bonus – a quick 8 min. walk to the Columbia City lightrail to zip downtown. Visit our Columbia City Urban Beer Garden.

THE WHO

Founder/Owner MATT LINCECUM is a long-time environmentalist, community organizer, and home brewer. But to make a living, he became an attorney and specialized in beverage and hospitality law. As fun as that sounds, Matt decided that instead of spending his time making other people’s dreams of owning a bar or restaurant or brewery come true, he should realize his own latent and undisclosed-to-his-wife desire to start a brewery.

Founder/Owner A long-time do-gooder, SARA NELSON earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology at UW but bailed from academia to pursue a career in public service and landed a as a policy advisor for the Seattle City Council. As fun as that sounds, she left to help launch Fremont Brewing where she now leads the company’s sustainability efforts and external relations including community partnerships and government relations. She serves on the Government Affairs Committees of the national Brewers Association and the WA Brewers Guild to advance craft beer’s interests through legislation and policy change. Working for her family business is the perfect expression of her interest in sustainability and community. And paying the mortgage.

Our Brewhouse

The adventure began with a 15-barrel brewhouse from Red Lodge Ales, two 30-barrel fermenters, and an annual production capacity of 1,000 barrels. We now brew at Fremont West (our 80,000 square foot facility just about a mile down the road from the Urban Beer Garden.)

FREMONT WEST

After reaching production capacity at Fremont East, we expanded to a new production facility a mile down the road from our original facility. We call it Fremont West. Here, we operate on an eighty barrel (80 BBL) GEA Huppman, three-vessel, steam-powered system commissioned in July 2016.
